About the Sports
Column Network
The Sports Column
Network (SCN) is an initiative based on health, physical fitness, education
and
recreation. Its primary focus is to foster health,
wellness and crime prevention through team sports and life skills clinics. The SCN Sports
Clinic is comprised of three areas:
1. The Developmental
League (DL) – this league is
developed for youth who do not possess the basic knowledge and skills in the
game of basketball. With the DL, participants are taught the basic
fundamentals of basketball. They are also taught the diligence in walking,
jogging and running with a purpose to develop a more advance level of
competition. The focus of this league is on physical, psychomotor and cognitive
skills. This league is open to both boys and girls ages 9-17.
2.
Cardiovascular Exercises
– Jump rope works in conjunction with the
DL. It is a controlled activity that reinforces individual and team
building skills. This is a fun activity where participants are taught
single and double-dutch combination moves that promote cardiovascular
development, confidence and strength of mind and fun.
3. Run for Fun
-
is designed for the serious sports enthusiasts. This level of instruction
teaches skilled techniques on a very advanced level. Run for Fun challenges
individual and team spirit, and is geared more for competitive sports.
The
2011 Summer Basketball League is Mondays through Wednesdays 6pm - 8pm.
